Challenge Painting One-Hundred

$125.00

This is the One Hundredth painting in the Challenge 100 Paintings. I can say it has been a fun journey taking on the Challenge. I decided not to put a time limit for its completion because I wanted the Challenge to be something that I could enjoy without any anxiety. Moving at my own pace to make small paintings was my goal and to make 100 for the final collection. A friend asked me what I learned from the Challenge. I learned several things and I have listed a few of them below:

Take chances.
Be bold.
Remember to bring to the canvas what you see and feel daily.
Use nature's palette as a guide.
Have confidence.
Push for a little more.
Enjoy new ideas.

The list could go on and on but the one thing that I let happen and that was
to let myself enjoy painting and to enjoy the moment.
I may continue painting small paintings for the mere reason they let me begin and with the beginning there is room to continue. I hope those that have followed along have enjoyed the Challenge as well.
I also want to mention that the afternoon light in the valley brings an unbelievable glow of light that makes me stop and look around. The light is fleeting and it is there for only a few minutes and then it is gone and the day has moved on getting ready for night. The last glow of the day brings a special beauty to the valley.

A Painting Day - Pink Clouds - Ruth Andre

"Pink Clouds"
4.5"x4.5" Mixed Media on Paper
12"x12" Mat Available
Challenge Painting - Ninety Nine
by Ruth Andre
$125

The sky is a constant reminder of nature's beauty. The expanse of color hovers above giving a daily masterpiece to enjoy. We have had rain and grey skies and dark clouds then yesterday the storm cleared and a rainbow shown crossing the valley. The colors were so amazing to see. Walking in the afternoon I have seen the sky full of pink clouds and enjoyed just standing and taking in the many shades of color. I sometimes wonder what brought me to this small valley and why. I am at odds at times with the area as a whole but once I am walking the land and enjoying the quiet I feel at peace within

A Painting Day - Sweet Talk - Ruth Andre

"Sweet Talk"
Diptych - Each Painting is 4"x14" Mixed Media  on Paper
Mat Available
by Ruth Andre
$400

I used Arches Oil Paper for this painting. It has a lovely surface and takes the paint well and lets me work quickly and intuitively. I had added several layers of paint to the paper when a voice said, Be Bold. I took that thought and and started painting with Alizarin Crimson as the final layer. What fun it is to let go and trust the painting. May we all enjoy sweet talk! It has been, "A Painting Day".

Rain has visited the valley several times in the last few weeks. The creek is high and moving quickly through the valley. Then today the sun shown and it was as if the land came to life with an abundance of color. The grasses have turned to a spirited green and cover the valley floor as well as the surrounding mountains. It is a glorious time of year. A Painting Day - Be Mine - Ruth Andre

"Be Mine"
12"x12" Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre
$450

I was feeling a great sense of love and happiness when I painted this painting, "Be Mine". The palette of colors are very different than most of my paintings. I almost had to force myself to set out only a few pastel paints so i would not stray to my love for grey. Sometimes we have to give ourselves permission to make a change. It is so easy to stay in our found circle for what we consider safe. Reach out and take risks to find new paths is my goal for 2016. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Makes Me Wonder - Ruth Andre

"Makes Me Wonder"
36"x24" Mixed Media on Linen
by Ruth Andre
$2,400

It feels so good to get back to the studio this week. I had been searching for canvas and found several 36"x24" linen canvases. For some reason courage and inventory hit my senses at the same time and I hauled a few into the studio. This is the first large painting for 2016 and I hope to do more. The title came from my introspective thinking that goes along with starting a new series. There is always more than what appears in front of us and there is always more than one way to view a situation. Different views on any given subject often make me wonder.  How about you? Take care. It has been,
"A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Rain Clouds - Ruth Andre

"Rain Clouds"
12"x12" Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre
$450

The New Year has arrived. I hope 2016 is a year filled with love and success garnered from the good works we have to make our life full. There is so much to think about and care about. I have found painting allows a deeper sense of myself and my surroundings. It is an anchor and a healer that lets me thrive with new ideas. Art has its purpose and if you make art or enjoy art you know of what I speak.

We have had a good amount of rain here in the valley and we are all thankful to see the hills covered in lush green grass. The creek is alive and is making its way through the valley roaring at times and then settling with such a lovely sound as it rushes by. It is so good to see the sleeping river bed full and alive once again.

Have a wonderful New Year from, "A Painting Day".
