Do you follow what is going on with the Wild Horses in America? I know there are very strong views on both sides and I am sure there is some good for what is being said on both sides. My heart aches when I see the round up photos and see mares stressed and foals lost and killed. Stallions removed from being leaders of their herds and brought into holding areas for future auctions. The wild horse, the Mustang, is a symbol of the American west and has run free for centuries. When I saw this mare I felt I needed to paint her for she and what she represents is very dear to my heart. Following the wild Mustangs has made for, "A Painting Day",

Ruth, I can always feel your love for the animal in each piece you paint. Love the background of thick paint and color, and the way you brought the color into the horse. This has to be one of my favorites! Really enjoying my calendar!!
Wonderful brushwork on the horse and I like the bold colors, too.
This is such a moving painting. Again you've made it a true portrait and an emotional one at that. I can see and thus feel the deep sadness of freedom lost.
You are right. The mustangs are our symbol of free spirits everywhere. Love your paintings.
You are so expressive, both with your painting, and with your words. Thank you so much.
Breaks my heart, Ruth. Why don't more people feel like you (and I)? Gorgeous expressive painting. People need to control, I guess.
Dear Ruth, we spoke via email several times about this piece... Love at first sight sums it up. A powerful portrait that signifies what is becoming of our wild horses, more relevant than ever with a war waged on them as we breath closer to less and less population in the wild.
I wanted to let you know that my husband recognized my passion for this small and beautiful painting. And in June, when I thought all birthday presents were done- I was handed ONE MORE. Yes, Wild No More is with me and I can not tell you how much happiness this vibrant piece gives me every day!
