A Painting Day - Shelter From the Storm - Ruth Andre

Today I painted but I also took shelter from the raging storm just outside my door bringing much needed rain to the valley. Being tucked away under a luscious  cozy throw with a good book in hand I felt right with the world. I thought about the life changing storms in my life. How sadness for one thing or another has made me seek shelter giving way to solitude with my thoughts. Seeking shelter is what gives me the strength to move forward as the storm retreats in my own mind. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Shelter From the Sun - Ruth Andre

"Shelter From the Sun"

Shelter is a comforting word that allows us to conjure all sorts of scenarios. A slatted roof may not keep one dry in the rain but it allows relief from the relentlessness of the sun on a hot summer day. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Rock Shelter - Ruth Andre

"Rock Shelter"

The word, "Shelter" has embraced my thinking and painting. This painting may be the beginning of a new series called, "SHELTER". I am thinking of the many forms of shelter that surround me and how I might paint them. Living in the valley under the shear quartz mountain rocks that surround the valley is the inspiration for the painting today. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Cloud Lullaby - Ruth Andre

The rain has cleared and a few clouds have lingered with the sun peeking through to warm the earth. This little painting is being shipped off for a benefit show in Wyoming. The exhibit is called, "Whodunnit" with each painting measuring just 6"x6". The artists have been asked to sign only the back of the painting making them anonymous. All proceeds help maintain an art education program for children that I truly endorse. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Passing Cloud - Ruth Andre

"Passing Cloud"
12"x12"x1.5" Oil & Mixed Media on Cradled Panel
by Ruth Andre

The sun has found its way through the clouds once more after days of rain. The valley has been ravished with torrential rain leaving the creek to overflow swamping tree limbs and small boulders on the bridge that I walk daily. One day the rushing creek was so high the bridge was hidden to hold its own under the torrent of water. Today the warmth of the sun is filtering through the clouds bringing with it a feeling of peacefulness. It has been, "A Painting Day".
