A Painting Day - Rain Clouds - Ruth Andre
"Rain Clouds"
12"x12" Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre
$450
The New Year has arrived. I hope 2016 is a year filled with love and success garnered from the good works we have to make our life full. There is so much to think about and care about. I have found painting allows a deeper sense of myself and my surroundings. It is an anchor and a healer that lets me thrive with new ideas. Art has its purpose and if you make art or enjoy art you know of what I speak.
We have had a good amount of rain here in the valley and we are all thankful to see the hills covered in lush green grass. The creek is alive and is making its way through the valley roaring at times and then settling with such a lovely sound as it rushes by. It is so good to see the sleeping river bed full and alive once again.
Have a wonderful New Year from, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Storm Clouds II - Ruth Andre
"Storm Clouds II"
4.5"x4.5" Oil and Cold Wax on Paper
Challenge Painting Thirty-Six
by Ruth Andre
The painting today is the follow-up for yesterday's post, "Storm Clouds I". The clouds moved through the valley and we did have a little bit of rain. The rain felt so good as I walked up the hill late afternoon. No need for a coat since the temperature was so warm. The rain made for a good time and good memories here in the valley. It was, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Cloud Crossing - Ruth Andre

Challenge Painting Three
Today I was out in the horse pasture collecting fallen oak tree limbs and picking up any large rocks that came down into the valley during the last big rain. The grass is high but will soon be mowed. As I stood in the field I could see a distant cloud coming my way. The whites of the clouds and the tall grasses were the inspiration for this challenge painting number three. It was, "A Painting Day".

I have been reading a lot lately. There are so many good books and now with access to digital books it is so easy to read several different authors. Some of the authors are new and some I just had never gotten in touch with previously. Louis L'Amour and his book, "Lonesome Gods" captured my spirit. Mr L'Amour amazed me with the splendor of his words. I felt the landscape that surrounded the characters and saw the clouds passing by over the desert lands. Today's painting is a small tribute to the wilds of the desert that Mr. L'Amour created. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Cloud Lullaby - Ruth Andre
"Cloud Lullaby"
6"x6"x1.5" Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas
by Ruth Andre
The rain has cleared and a few clouds have lingered with the sun peeking through to warm the earth. This little painting is being shipped off for a benefit show in Wyoming. The exhibit is called, "Whodunnit" with each painting measuring just 6"x6". The artists have been asked to sign only the back of the painting making them anonymous. All proceeds help maintain an art education program for children that I truly endorse. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Prairie Sun - Ruth Andre
"Prairie Sun"
12"x12"x1.5" oil & mixed media on panel
by Ruth Andre
The sun's greeting is always appreciated. I love cloudy days but too many of them make me sad. The sunny days are always welcome. While visiting a ranch in Nevada I loved the big sky and watching the clouds and the sun play at making shadows on the prairie lands. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Prairie Clouds - Ruth Andre
"Prairie Clouds"
12"x12"x1.5" oil & mixed media on panel - diptych

The painting today is another subtle piece that I hope evokes calm. I have realized lately how much outside influences can take our minds far from our center and from the good thoughts that let us grow. I plan to take time to watch the clouds pass by. There are times like these that ideas flow and energy is reborn. It has been, "A Painting Day".

There is an endless visual as I watch the creek and the passing clouds overhead. The sky's reflections are held by the rushing creek waters. The colors change with the passing clouds and the hour of the day. Watching has made for, "A Painting Day".

Pink Rain Clouds - Ruth Andre
I know there are those of you out there saying,-What is she doing? I am in the same boat with you and ask myself the same thing. Today I headed to the studio with good intentions to clean up a little plein air painting I had just about finished and then I changed one thing and then another and the painting left plein air and became a totally contemporary landscape. I have always found it amusing when an artist says I am interrupting the landscape but shoot, I think I am doing just that. Has anyone else been taken over by aliens living in their studio? Traveling through space has made for, "A Painting Day".
