Star Bright - Ruth Andre

Totem - "Star Bright"
1.25"x12" Oil-Wax on Paper
Painting Matted and Framed 5"x16"
by Ruth Andre

I don't know about you but shopping for the holidays takes planning and a lot of hunting and evaluating to find the perfect surprise for those special people on the Gift List. I usually shop all year long because I am not good working my way through the holiday crowds and feeling the pressure to buy just so there is a present ready for giving. Today's painting is giving me a little festive push to gather some holiday spirit. It has been, "A Painting Day".

The Grass Is Greener - Ruth Andre

"The Grass Is Greener"
6"x8" Oil on Canvas
by Ruth Andre

The grass is greener this year or at least it is staying greener due to the amazing amount of rain fall we have had. I love the blustery winds and cool weather and the cloud filled sky. It is an invigorating time to be outside enjoying the spring landscape.
It has been, "A Painting Day".

I have been away from the studio for a few days and it felt so good to get back to painting this past week. I am totally enjoying painting on paper panels. I am showing these pieces horizontally but they could be shown vertically as well. The painting above is the third painting in the "Primarily" series. "Primarily Yellow" and "Primarily Red" were posted in previous posts and below. Museum quality mats will be ordered for each painting.

Random Thought - Ruth Andre

"Random Thought"
4"x12" Mixed Media on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre
$250.00

A lot of things have been going on lately and life seems to take over at times. I am working on a calf portrait for the Cattlemen's Western Art Show and Sale and when I can I sneak in working on a few small abstract pieces. I am switching gears so to speak moving from a more realistic subject and then to works that have no templet. I hope you enjoy the, "Random Thought" painting. It may be a study for a larger painting. I want to work on a few more smaller works and then pick one for a painting much larger. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Night Light - Ruth Andre

"Night Light"
4.5"x4.5" Mixed Media on Paper
Mat 12"x12"
by Ruth Andre
$125.00

The valley is quiet at night and I can see three homes from my back porch. Each house is about a quarter of a mile away. The lights shining from the neighboring houses are quiet beacons quietly resting before saying good-night. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Milk Run - Ruth Andre

"Milk Run"
8"x8" Mixed Media on Handmade Paper
by Ruth Andre
$250.00

I am not a pilot but think about how it must be to fly the same route daily or even two or three times a day. The pilots must be dedicated to their task and know what to look out for during the flight. Living here in the valley we make the weekly milk run with a list of errands that need to be accomplished before returning home. It sometimes feels like a continuous loop but the trips is always different in some way. My neighbor and I were setting up a time to get together for dinner and when I said why don't you just come to my house she jumped at the chance. She nor I wanted to venture out of the valley if we could stay at home. I am starting to feel like a recluse and maybe I am one already.

I used a textured handmade paper for this painting and it is exciting to paint. The organic edges give new depth and life to the painting. This piece is small, only 8"x8" but with a mat and frame it will hold its own and make a great accent in that special place. I love quiet corners and have set up a little reading nook in my bedroom. The art next to my overstuffed chair is serene and gives me a peaceful feeling. I like art that is there just for me and I like big art that can be shared. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Barnstorming - Ruth Andre

"Barnstorming"
8"x8" Mixed Media on Arches Paper
by Ruth Andre

As crazy as it may sound the idea for this series came to me one afternoon while working in the studio. I had completed a painting but still wanted to paint. The word, "Notam" came to me and and the painting above, "Barnstorming" came to be. I will be sharing the continued series as they seek refuge on the torn papers. I hope you find this bit of whimsy enjoyable. Come fly with me. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Rain Clouds - Ruth Andre

"Rain Clouds"
12"x12" Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre
$450

The New Year has arrived. I hope 2016 is a year filled with love and success garnered from the good works we have to make our life full. There is so much to think about and care about. I have found painting allows a deeper sense of myself and my surroundings. It is an anchor and a healer that lets me thrive with new ideas. Art has its purpose and if you make art or enjoy art you know of what I speak.

We have had a good amount of rain here in the valley and we are all thankful to see the hills covered in lush green grass. The creek is alive and is making its way through the valley roaring at times and then settling with such a lovely sound as it rushes by. It is so good to see the sleeping river bed full and alive once again.

Have a wonderful New Year from, "A Painting Day".

Dockside - Ruth Andre

"Dockside"
12x18x1.5 inches, oil-wax on panels
by Ruth Andre

Have you just sat on a lake dock and dangled your toes in the water? It is as if the whole world is tucked away and you have the moment all to yourself. My day was a peaceful and
