Sand Creek - Ruth Andre

"Sand Creek"
8"x10" Oil on Stretched Canvas
by Ruth Andre
$375

Today's painting is one I did sometime ago but it remains one of my favorite paintings. It is oil on stretched canvas. The painting is all about the creek that flows through our small ranch and with the heat of summer the creek slows and is finally swallowed by the sun and sandy creek bed. Mossy leaves and grasses still line the dry creak. I have  had to be away from the studio due to hurting my back. I miss painting and am using my iPhone apps for some fun digital painting as I recuperate. I may show a few of the digital works in the next posts if I am not better soon.  Stay well and have many, "A Painting Day'.

Amador Oak - Ruth Andre

"Amador Oak"
8"x6" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre
$95.00

What did I say just a few days ago that I would not be painting plein air since I had so much studio painting to do. Things have a way of changing and last Saturday I met the Sacramento Plein Air Painters in Amador City. Amador City is one of my favorite small towns to visit and it is just a few miles from my house so I had to go. The artists met at the Andre Bakery, (no relation to myself) and then we headed out to set up our easels throughout the town. I found a shady spot with a lovely view and went to work. It seemed that most of the painters were watercolorists so my thick palette knife painting was quite different. I paint plein air for the joy of it. The paint is a miracle in the works. Seeing color from life and then mixing paint to reflect the landscape is an amazing task. I do love the challenge very much. It was, "A Painting Day".

Andre Art Prints - Ruth Andre

"Spring Clouds"
Framed Print on Paper
by Ruth Andre
I have had requests for prints for a few of my paintings so I decided it was time to add a gallery of prints to my website and blog. This post is a preview for the first available prints. The Online Gallery offers several printing options. I am showing framed prints in this post but canvas prints are available as well. If you would like to gift yourself or a friend to a print on paper with no frame that option is available. I have 15 paintings listed at this time and will be adding more images for printing in the next few days. Enjoy!
It has been many, "A Painting Day".

"Wakamatsu Oak"

"Wakamatsu Oak"
8"x8" Oil on Canvas
by Ruth Andre
$125

I drove to a beautiful area outside of Placerville, CA yesterday to meet up with a group of painters. We met at the Wakamatsu Ranch. The ranch is rich in history and is being preserved. You can read about the ranch Here. The old oak in the painting was hovering above a small pond. Its tree limbs went all the way to the ground giving shelter for wildlife in the area. It was a beautiful cool day with gusts of wind that sent my hat flying a few times.
I just received an assignment for 40 small paintings on paper that are due as soon as possible so I will be in the studio working. The landscape will be there to see but not painted for a few weeks.
It was, "A Painting Day".

New Logo - Ruth Andre

I have needed a new logo for some time and asked designer, Ian Kaiser, to work up a design for me. He sent several logo ideas and I think this one is my favorite. The type feels bold but minimal and the colors have their own power. Ian is also my son and a product designer. His business is, ChicWrap and on the ChicWrap site you will find the words, "Life Simplified by Design" for his many products. His goal is to make good designs for everyday products. Enjoy.

Guardian - Ruth Andre

"Guardian"
8"x6" Oil on Canvas

Today was a special day. My friend Bruce Hancock drove over for a little plein air painting. We headed to the far end of the ranch picked a shady spot and set up our easels. I had not painted the landscape since last October so the word, "Challenge" took on new meaning. We painted all through the morning and then headed for the house for lunch. It was, "A Painting Day".

Castaway - Ruth Andre

"Castaway"
7"x7" Oil and Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre

I am painting for  a group in Paris. I sent four paintings out for review and now I wait to see if they will accept my work. The waiting on any showing is always a challenge  I know Paris really sounds exciting but I am trying to just paint and not think about it. Ha, Ha, Ha! I say that and here I am writing about it. I have decided that keeping my head down and painting is the best way to go no matter what the final decision may be. I have also been asked this week to participate in a very nice site and once my work is made available I will sing out and let you know the weblink. I have to say being invited to this site was very nice and also a surprise. You may be thinking what does this blog post have to do with the "Castaway" painting above and I guess it is my feeling of being out to sea. Maybe  it is just having what seems to be a lot going on with my art right now. The good stuff sometimes happens when we are in unknown waters. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Grasses - Ruth Andre

"Grasses"
7"x7" Oil and Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre
$189

My painting today is a reminder of the season's change. The summer heat and wind has dried the grasses in the valley a pale yellow. The grass heads have tasseled and as they flutter in the breeze seeds are released into the air. I wonder what the untamed land must have been like years ago.

Roadblock - Ruth Andre

"Roadblock"
5"x5" Oil and Mixed Media on Paper
by Ruth Andre

My husband just returned from a driving trip across country. He had many stories to tell since he was away for five weeks. On his way home traffic was stopped in Texas due to a sand storm. A detour was set up that took him over hill and dale on a windy two lane road. You can only imagine the traffic and the sandy landscape. I must have been thinking about the Texas adventure when I painted this painting. I can feel the wildness of the open land.
