I had an art show in Texas a few years ago and traveled the back country roads of the Hill Country area. The terrain had its own beauty and the vistas were  unique and on going. The spring grasses were just beautiful as they blew in the wind. Texas is an amazing state and I love Texans and they love Texas! Being on the back roads of Hill Country made for, "A Painting Day".

Texas Small Works Show

I look a little wild and wooly in this photo but I thought it might be one to share.  The photo was taken at Texana in Goliad, Texas for the "Cow Paintings by Ruth Andre" exhibit a few years ago.  I was lucky enough to visit historic Goliad and meet some wonderful collectors at the reception.  Photos were forgotten until near the end of the evening and I had been busy talking for a few hours.  I mention the show because I just shipped 32 paintings off to Texana for an upcoming Small Works show and the reception will be Saturday, October 8, 2011.  The paintings are 4x4 up to 10x10 inches, framed and ready for that special collector. Texana is located in the town square and if you are in the area come and enjoy the great offering of paintings and art items as well as a very fun evening.

Spring Calf

The spring calves have come along nicely this year and are pretty big by now.  A new group of calves have arrived and as I was driving home yesterday there were two calves very close to the pasture fence next to the road and when they saw my truck they scampered off to their momma or baby sitter.  The cows seem to set up a little nursery with one or two cows in charge to watch over the baby calves while the main group of cows head off to eat the green grass that is showing on the valley floor and hillsides.  It is a joy to see these young calves and watch them out in the open pastures here in the foothills.  Traveling past the valley ranches, made for, "A Painting Day".

Texas Girl #4

When in Texas you had better love cows.  Luckily, I do!  The painting today is "Texas Girl #4", a Brahma and Hereford cross and one pretty lady cow.  I found her at a ranch near Goliad, Texas.  This painting has been showing in my gallery in Goliad, Texas and just recently sold so she will be heading off to a new home.  Loving cows made for, "A Painting Day".

Standing Tall

On the way to Galt, California to buy a few bales of hay for our three hay eaters.  My husband was at the wheel of the truck when he heard me say, Stop.  I saw this beautiful paint gelding in the field near the road and wanted to get out and take a look at him.  This stoic fellow was very happy to have company and seemed willing to pose as I took a few photos.  Paints are a beautiful breed.  Their coloring is always a lovely surprise, like puzzles in a box.  Heading to Galt made for, "A Painting Day".

Texas Lady - THREE

Here is the final Brahma/Herford cow from the Texas Ladies series. When you look at these cow faces you can see why I had so much fun painting the three Texas ladies. Their owner lives in a beautiful area of south Texas, near Goliad, Texas. The area is full of history and a must see is the Presido La Bahia, a mission built in 1749. Visiting Goliad, Texas and seeing the land and cattle made for, "A Painting Day".
