Desert Warrior - Ruth Andre

Today as I toiled away in the studio thoughts of art and life came to me.  Art, like life, is a continual growing place for an artist.  After posting the small painting yesterday, my husband suggested I paint a larger canvas in this style.  I surprised him and did just that.  I do not know if I will stay with this style of painting but it is good for me to work with a bit of wildness and add paint to the canvas to form shape with color.  I would imagine seeing myself at work would be like seeing a film on fast forward.  There is no time to linger.  There seems to be an immediate need to add the next palette of paint and then again and again.  Whew!  The horse is the obvious to view in this painting but I fell in love with the background and the feeling of movement and depth created while applying the paint with the palette knife.  It was, "A Painting Day".

Sage - Ruth Andre

There has been a lot going on with my life as of late, with little time for painting.  This has been the longest hiatus from the studio since I first started painting.  While away I never stopped thinking about my art or stopped seeing art all around me. The painting today is a cooperative view of two styles.  One being my more realistic brush paintings and one being my palette knife paintings.  I may tuck this one away and take a look at it in a day or two to see if this style is something I would like move forward with in the future making for "A Painting Day"?

Hopi Has A New Home

Last November I was invited to show my paintings at the Robert Kelly Gallery in Park City, Utah. Over the week-end I received a very nice email saying, "Hopi" had sold and had found a new home.  Hopi is one of my small herd of horses and the painting was made with great affection for this very special little Paint.

I found Hopi in a barn along with 30 other colts while visiting a friend in Missouri.  My friend's father had died leaving him a big herd of horses and the young ones were being shipped out to a Horse Trader.  Being a horse lover it was hard to see these young colts and fillies being sent off for who knew what?  Then near the back of the barn I saw Hopi and decided that she had to be mine.  When Hopi arrived at our farm she had not been handled except to be trailered twice and she was pretty wild.  She is still a bit wild but such a beauty.

"A Night in Paris" Donation - Ruth Andre

It is a "Night in Paris" themed fundraiser for the Webster School in Malibu.  I was asked to donate a painting and thought the painting, "Stephanie" would be a welcome addition for the March 12, 2012 auction sale.  I am sure the school will have a good turn out for the,  Webster's PTA Annual Evening Event

I have been in southern California working and not painting.  I so miss painting and hope to return soon to the studio for, "A Painting Day".

Ruby - Ruth Andre

I did a studio Waltz today, meaning I picked up the brushes and moved the paint around after a month away from painting.  The dance felt like I had to remember where to put my feet and how to move once again.  My camera is still packed so you are seeing an iPhone photo of this Texas Longhorn cow painting of Ruby.  I see changes and a need for a better photo but I wanted to touch base and get back to posting.  I am taking one step at a time and that includes making today,
 "A Painting Day".

While I Was Gone - Ruth Andre

My last Blog post was December 24, 2011.  A whole world of events have transpired since that time.
The most important being my mother, Lorean Armes, died on January 6th, 2011, leaving many memories with all that knew her.  I have learned there is always good that comes with what seemingly seems sad so in the next weeks, months and years I will continue to share life stories that helped me be
the person I am today due to my mother's diligent teachings.
I will also share painted images of those things that brought joy and comfort to me while I was gone.
