Back On the Trail - Ruth Andre

"Back on the Trail"
4"x4" oil & mixed media on panel
by Ruth Andre

I am posting this small painting today to share a few long sighs that were issued as I tackled this 4x4 inch canvas panel. You would think working small would mean working quickly and the painting would be completed in no time at all. The truth is small is a no man's land at best if you are looking for speed. I lost count on how many times I photographed this painting then changed the painting. I am leaving it as is and moving on to get back on the trail to larger paintings. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Sue, You are so good to comment. This maybe the last 4x4 inch painting for a long while. Learning curve is big for small. Take care.

Bonjour chère amie,

Même les plus petits sentiers sont des chemins tortueux comme celui de la vie.
Un joli travail...

Gros bisous ♡

It may be small, but it carries a big punch with the texture and contrast! Really nice colors.

Theresa, Thank-you for the good words. I know I shared one of the almost completed versions of this painting with you so you know of its changes. Take care.

Ruth you hit the nail on the head. Often a painting "looks" simple but has taken hours of painstaking work. Size is not part of the equation at all. I also agree it is the textures that make this one successful. Don't you love palette knife work? It is hard to resist but sometimes I think, oh heck, I won't be able to recycle this one as it's got so much texture on it!
