Sonnet - Ruth Andre

Spring is springing with The Cattlemen's Western Art Show coming up in Paso Robles at the end of March and the Reflections of Nature show in Fallbrook, CA May 4,5 & and 6. The Cattlemen's Show paintings are completed and are being framed. I need a few more paintings for the Reflections of Nature exhibit and worked on this sweet sheep painting today. I am thinking today's work is the study for a larger painting but we shall see? Thinking spring made for, "A Painting Day".

Slow Motion - Ruth Andre

The Artist, Dan McCaw, wrote the following comment on his blog and it gave me the courage to post a painting I made today.  His words spoke what I was feeling.
It has been made for "A Painting Day".

"In this intimate conversation where the artist frees himself from the judgement, restraints and opinions of others and allows himself a vantage point where intuition, instinct and feeling become his guide and creativity is allowed to run free then we may find that our true nature will surface and express
its true self."

High Desert Valley

I live in a valley not far from the Sierras.  The road in between home and the mountains runs along pockets of valley areas with quiet streams and openness that seems to go on and on.  I love these valley areas and the magnificent view of the mountains and the endless sky.  Thinking of a summer vacation has made for, "A Painting Day".

Panhandle Plains Museum Show

The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum celebrated its PPHM Invitational Western Art Show & Sale reception last Saturday night.  The show will run from March 3 to March 24 and may be viewed on line HERE.  I am happy to report my painting, "Ovaro" sold at the reception. Curator, Michael Grauer, has gathered together works for a wonderful exhibit.  I was fortunate enough to visit Canyon, Texas and the event a few years ago.  I recommend visiting PPHM as well as the Palo Duro Canyon in Canyon, Texas. Enjoy the show online or put on your Cowboy Boots and head for the museum. The news has made me happy for "A Painting Day".

Desert Warrior - Ruth Andre

Today as I toiled away in the studio thoughts of art and life came to me.  Art, like life, is a continual growing place for an artist.  After posting the small painting yesterday, my husband suggested I paint a larger canvas in this style.  I surprised him and did just that.  I do not know if I will stay with this style of painting but it is good for me to work with a bit of wildness and add paint to the canvas to form shape with color.  I would imagine seeing myself at work would be like seeing a film on fast forward.  There is no time to linger.  There seems to be an immediate need to add the next palette of paint and then again and again.  Whew!  The horse is the obvious to view in this painting but I fell in love with the background and the feeling of movement and depth created while applying the paint with the palette knife.  It was, "A Painting Day".

Sage - Ruth Andre

There has been a lot going on with my life as of late, with little time for painting.  This has been the longest hiatus from the studio since I first started painting.  While away I never stopped thinking about my art or stopped seeing art all around me. The painting today is a cooperative view of two styles.  One being my more realistic brush paintings and one being my palette knife paintings.  I may tuck this one away and take a look at it in a day or two to see if this style is something I would like move forward with in the future making for "A Painting Day"?
