Palomino Girl

This is an encore painting of Sarah. Sarah is saddling up my mare, Mystery, so they can be the horse and rider models. I like the qiuick sketch feeling to this little painting. It made for, "A Painting Day".

The Stocker

The young lady in this painting is Sarah, a kind and generous friend. Sarah was good enough to act as a horse-riding-model for me one day. Sarah is a horsewoman, photographer and clay artist, speicalizing in stoneware buttons. The buttons are wonderful little gems. Check them out at Sarah's Etsy store. www.palominoblue.etsy.com

Eye Paint

This is a close-up look at a sorrel and white Paint horse. The horse is looking strong and sure, as he looks out upon the world. I love his color. He makes me feel good on, "A Painting Day"

Eye Spy

I am totally fascinated with the eye of the horse. Cropping in on the horses eye, lets you focus on that individual horse. Their personality and their action of intent is there to be seen. Painting the Eye of the Horse is a continuing project, that makes for "A Painting Day".

Matriarch

In the valley, where I live, there are more cows than people. At this time of year, with the hills green with tall lush grass, you will see cows along every roadway. Cows are enjojyable to paint. They do not have to be beautiful to be majestic, like a horse. When I see the cows as I travel the backroads, it is, "A Painting Day.

Prince & Isabelle

When I saw photos of these two horses, I knew I had to paint them. They are pasture mates, Prince and Isabelle. They have a special bond that I wanted to try and capture. The photo, for this painting, was taken by Anne Louise Mac Donald. Anne Louise is a special person with a passion for horses and a vivid imagination. She has worked with animals all her life and currently works part-time caring for critters from fish to rats. The rest of her time is spent writing and enjoying her two horses. She has also published three picture books, two YA novels and a nonfiction picture book for children, illustrated with her photographs. Currently Anne Louise is working on a third novel, teaching Natural Horse & Hoof Care and taking more photos which she shares with the world through her Flickr account and her website, www.hugahorsefarm.com

"Lonesome Dove"

This is painting #3 for the first triptych series. Lonesome Dove is a local boy and lives just over the hill. He has an easy way about him and a "kind eye". I liked painting this handsome guy. It made for "A Painting Day".

The Cisco Kid

For those of you who have not seen my paintings before, I am sure there was a gasp of air, when you saw yesterday's post, The Lone Ranger. Yes, my studio painting style is totally different to my plein air painting-field sketches. I kind of took a deep breath as well. Why the painting style is so different, I do not know?

As promised, this is painting #2 "Cisco Kid", of the triptych series. Cisco Kid is one of my favorite models. She is a Paint and posed for me before, for the "Caught in the Wind" painting. Seeing this little Paint in the pasture makes for "A Painting Day".

The Lone Ranger

It is raining today, so I have tucked myself away in the studio, with brush in hand. I want to share with you the first of a series of triptychs, that I have been painting. This is painting # One, "The Lone Ranger". I will share # Two and # Three paintings with you, in the next couple days. With the rain coming down, it is "A Painting Day".

Old Apple

This little painting is one I started with over the week-end. It was a warm up painting to get the brushes moving. It too is an old apple tree, in full bloom. This old apple tree was most likely planted during the "Gold Rush" era here in Sutter Creek. It was "A Painting Day".

Spring Blossoms

The day was one of those perfect spring days and as I was dashing to the studio, I noticed the old apple tree, in the neighbor's pasture, heavy with blooms. I decided it was "A Painting Day".
