Learning the Ropes

I have had the opportunity to meet ranchers in different parts of the country.  I see the ranch family as a working unit.  In this painting the young man is learning the art of roping.  I love seeing kids take on the ranch life challenges and I love seeing their parents right there with them.  The kids get a lot of support and seem to love learning ranch chores to earn the respect of their elders. Old time values still run strong in the rancher's life.  Watching ranch kids made for, "A Painting Day".

Ruth, Very nice painting and an even nicer story. Glad to hear old values are still alive somewhere.

Ruth,
I love your blog- your cows and horses are amazing! Just beautiful. I also really like this one "learning the ropes" for the composition. Thanks for visiting me- appreciate it.

I really like the cropping on this and your compositions on all of your paintings. You have such a facility for painting animals . . . something I'm not sure I could even attempt!

This is such a nice painting, Ruth! You show just enough details, with the rope being the center of interest. Enjoyed the story, too.
