Rain in the Morning

Quarter Horses are athletic hard working horses especially on working ranches.  The work goes on day to day.  This little roan is waiting for his rider to start the day.  The herd of cows needs to be moved and he is ready.  This painting found a home with a Texas Rancher.  Following the herd made for, "A Painting Day".

Sugar

This little filly born and raised on a working cattle ranch in Oregon. She will be herding cattle in the next few years on the range where she was born. The history of these old ranches and how the families have lived for generations on the same land is such an important part of America.

The exhibit, "American Horse in Art" show & sale will run August 12th -November 13th, 2010. If you are in the Amarillo area, this is a show to see. Shenandoah

Shenandoah is the 4th painting for a series of horse portraits with shadows. I enjoy painting these intimate horse portraits. This is a friend's Quarter Horse, Diamond, and she lives just over the mountain on a small ranch in the Shenandoah Valley. Seeing Diamond made for, "A Painting Day".

Partners

This is a painting of a young man and his horse, as they were waiting for their number to be called for competition. The horse was as patient as can be and acted like he knew the routine and was in good hands. The two of them were partners and did well in the ring. Seeing this horse and rider made for, "A Painting Day".

Red Quarter

Here in the foothills of northern California, I am surrounded by Quarter horses. I admire the Quarter horse for their beauty and their athletic abilities. Today's painting is "Red Quarter, a sorrel Quarter horse gelding. Traveling the back roads and passing the near by ranches, makes for, "A Painting Day".

"Las Hermanas" #1, #2 & #3

Here is the completed triptych, "Las Hermanas". Each panel is 9x9-inches. I decided to frame each painting with a thin burnished silver frame, so they can be hung side by side or vertically. The horses are looking out as if each has spotted something coming their way, on the horizon. Seeing the three mares, made for, "A Painting Day".
