Over There- Ruth Andre

"Over There"
10"x10"x1.5" oil & mixed media on panel
by Ruth Andre

I am feeling skittish lately. My neighbors have reported finding a rattlesnake near their home. The valley where I live currently has more wildlife than people and there are mice and squirrels so it is great feeding area for snakes. I find myself looking about when I walk to my studio, feed the horses, walk around in the barn. I don't want to be surprised by a snake especially a rattlesnake. So today the painting title is "Over There" because I am constantly looking Over There making sure all is snake free. It has been, "A Painting Day".

I love the dark rich color in this painting, Ruth. I know it is counter to your inspiration when you painted it, but I see an urban street or alleyway at night complete with dark and lit windows, signage and doorways! It's very moody and atmospheric to me. But that's my literal side taking over! Beautiful painting.

Hi Ruth...I love the dark, rich color in this painting. It's moody and atmospheric to me...I see an urban street scene. But that's the literal side of me taking over again. Beautiful painting with many possible interpretations. Good work.

I like the small areas of light peeking through. Be careful reaching in to get a flake of hay! Rattlesnakes used to love lounging in our hay shed!

Bruce, The beauty of abstract paintings is that the viewer can bring their own experiences into the painting. Seeing the image without the known templet image of a still life or landscape, The painting is what it is and what the viewer finds it to be. Thank-you for your comment.

Theresa, Thank-you for the reminder regarding snakes in hay. Yikes! I may need to move to a condo if I see a snake in the hay. It might be a bit tight going with the horses though. Thank-you for the good words.
