Ruby Tuesday

A friend in Missouri called one day and said, you have to come over and see our new filly. What a treat to see this little feisty filly, in her way too big halter sliding back and forth. She was a very fine little thing and has grown to be a beautiful Missouri Fox Trotter mare. Seeing Ruby Tuesday made for, "A Painting Day".

Cool Water

Summer has hit the foothills and this painting, Cool Water, seemed to hit the spot for today. I was out with the horses, giving them a good brushing and it was hot work. The horses do love the grooming attention. Seeing the mares waiting their turn, for a bit of time with the curry comb made for, "A Painting Day".

Plein Air Paintings

Today I am showing a little Art Show at my framer's shop in Placerville, California. Jim Ginney is a fantastic guy and has been helping me choose just the right frames for the past few years. He has a wonderful spirit and seems to always know what is needed for the perfect marriage of frame and painting. Jim has selected a few of my plein air paintings to show at his shop and I am truly pleased. Jim is also a fine art photographer and when you visit his shop, you get a case of the "I Want", when you see his beautiful nature photography. Meeting Jim has made for, "A Painting Day".

Side by Side

This little painting may need a few more swishes of paint but I am kind of excited about it and decided to send it out into the world. My good friend, Sarah, is leading my Paint horse, Hopi, for a little walk, side by side. Hopi is loving the attention and Sarah is enjoying this feisty little mare. Seeing Sarah and Hopi side by side made for, "A Painting Day".

Rosarita

I don't know what it is but the days are zipping by and there seems to be no end in sight of things to do away from the studio. It is frustrating to have your day planned and the one and only thing you want to do is be in the studio and then the plan changes and you are here there and everywhere. Today, I am posting Rosarita. The little filly is taking a look back and I think it may be what I need to do to keep moving forward. Rosarita is a 2009 filly from the Sawyer Creek Appaloosa Farm in New York. They have a very neat website with a photo camera in the foaling stall. The mares are tricky and find ways to have their babies, when you head into the kitchen for a cup of coffee. Seeing this little filly, made for, "A Painting Day".

Red on Red

I was at a local horse show and the young lady in this painting was setting out for a practice run before her number was called. I loved her sorrel horse and the red vest glinting in the sun, as she loped around the arena. Seeing Red, made for, "A Painting Day".

Here in the foothills of northern California, I am surrounded by Quarter horses. I admire the Quarter horse for their beauty and their athletic abilities. Carmen

Lately, dogs have been on my mind. I have met people wanting portraits painted of their favorite pooches. I have a couple of Golden Lab paintings in the works. The painting today is a Golden Lab, Carmen. She is obviously a very happy girl with a look of total glee in her eyes. Painting Carmen made for "A Painting Day".

Bison Bull

I must have vacation fever. I so much want to jump in the truck and take off for Wyoming and take in the Yellowstone National Park. Buffalo would be my first and greatest interest but being in the high country of Wyoming would be spectacular. The painting today is Bison Bull and he is a big guy on a big canvas, 36x36-inches. He has a most curious expression. His eye is letting me know, he is very much aware of what is around him. Painting Bison Bull, made for, "A Painting Day".
