Wishing You the Best & January Calendar For You

We are all apt to celebrate the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 in different ways but I hope we all can reflect on the happy times of 2010 and learn from any setbacks or troubles we may have had.  May 2011 be a time to move on to a new beginning.  The new year is filled with promise and change.  The painting today is "Moving Out" and I have placed it on a Calendar so it can be downloaded for any one that would like to share and celebrate the new year along with me.  I plan to add a calendar photo at the end of each month for 2011 so check back for the February Post in a few weeks.  Happy New Year one and all!  Thinking of the New Year has made for, "A Painting Day".  Click Here for Calendar

Silver

This is Silver, a very adventuresome boy cat.  Once while visiting his owners for a few days Silver would roam the house and for some reason when he got playful in the night he would race over my bed at full speed bouncing on and off leaving me wide awake.  This boy cat had a very big heart and lots of love to share.  Meeting Silver made for, "A Painting Day".

Have A Wonderful Holiday

This is an exciting time of year.  We can all take a moment and be thankful and joyful for our friends and family.  We can also take time to give to those that mean so much to us.  I would like to send a special greeting to those that have given support to me with my art career this past year.  To all of you that visit my blog and a special thanks to those that make a comment or two.  It is so encouraging to hear from each of you.

The photo above was taken at my farm in Missouri a few years ago.  I am out in the horse pasture holding all four of my mares.  This was no easy task since Angel is the head mare and would only stand by her daughter, Cayenne and Hopi had to be careful of Cayenne since Cay likes to boss her around and then poor Mystery had to be all on her own since she is the low horse in the herd's pecking order.  I have lots of good memories living in the Mid-West and being a Farmer's Wife.  It was a great life.

Peace and Love to all.

Hillside Oaks

As I walked through the mud today to get the horses in for the night I had  thoughts of summer and how it is like living in two different worlds as the seasons change.  The hills turn from golden to the brightest green.  The painting today was painted just down the road.  It is of one of the many old oaks that dot the landscape in the valley and the surrounding hills.  Thinking of summer made for, "A Painting Day".

Nutmeg

Santa Fe, New Mexico is one of my favorite destinations to visit.  The endless array of galleries, restaurants  plus it is a shopper's paradise in the Southwest.  I was there for a gallery show and it was the last day so was out visiting the Railroad District.  As I was walking through a small mall area I spotted a spunky Terrier waiting for treats from his owner.  I had to stop and introduce myself to the owner and asked to pet this charming dog.  I was immediately introduced to Nutmeg and he won my heart with his charming ways.   A few weeks later I received two CD's with non stop photos of Nutmeg along with a request for a painting.  This was a fun painting and I enjoyed the loose brushwork and even painting her wild red collar.  Shopping in Santa Fe made for, "A Painting Day".

Mustangs

This is a painting I painted awhile back and it still holds my interest due to the mix of horses and knowing they are Mustangs, horses that represent our heritage and our west.  I admire the Mustang advocates that continue to fight for the freedom of Mustangs and responsible care of culled Mustangs.  My love of the Mustang made for, "A Painting Day".

Kylie Finish & Show News

Here is the finish for Kylie.  If you check back to the last post you will not see big changes in the painting but  you will see a few.  I lightened the background slightly and made Kylie's muzzle just a little thicker and added some highlights to her coat.  These changes enhanced Kylie's likeness.  The painting is a surprise for Jim,  Kylie's owner and the unveiling is tomorrow.  Let's hope it has been, "A Painting Day" to remember.

I received word today that two of my landscape paintings will be showing at the coming Yellowstone Art Musuem's 43rd Annual Art Auction.  The opening art reception will January 27, 2011 at the Museum.

Kylie

This is a work in progress of a good dog friend, Kylie.  She is a sweet Australian Shepherd and is owned by Jim Ginney, my good friend and painting framer.  Kylie is the official studio greeter and it is such fun to see her on my many runs to the framing studio.  I still have to add a few changes to Kylie's portrait but the likeness is there so I am pretty happy with the painting for now.  I will be adding the final changes in a day or two.  Meeting the sweet Kylie has made for, "A Painting Day".

You are invited to:

Trade Winds

As I was walking into the house late this afternoon leaving my art and the studio behind for the day,  I was thinking I needed a name for my latest painting.  I felt a cool breeze followed by a rush of air that was very warm.  I thought the mingling air currents might be similar to what it must have been like on the plains, trading ponies and beads before winter turned everything cold and white.  Still feeling the rushing air I decided the name for this painted Paint must of been sent to me as a sign that change is on its way.  Painting on Winter's Eve made for, "A Painting Day".
