Santa Fe Trail - Ruth Andre

"Santa Fe Trail"
6x6x1.5 inches, oil-wax on panel
by Ruth Andre

Have  you been to Santa Fe? I have and I am wishing I could go again real soon. I love being in New Mexico and I love all of the sites of Santa Fe. It is an art destination and so much more. Today's painting is a small venture to Santa Fe with my paints. There is a wonderful blog site called Chasing Santa Fe that I follow to keep up with the beauty of the City Different. I was thinking this little painting might also be good to submit to the Encaustic Art Institute to show in the member's gallery. Thinking of Santa Fe has made for, "A Painting Day".

Rio Chama - Ruth Andre

"Rio Chama"
8x8x1.5 inches, oil on panel
by Ruth Andre

While in New Mexico there is no escaping the beautiful turquoise waters as you pass through the canyon areas. Driving north from Santa Fe to Abiquiu, the cliffs rise up for what seems forever with their red shear sides reflecting into the waters below. It is truly a grand sight to see and you feel so blessed to be there, even if it is for just a few days. Recently I joined the the Encaustic Art Institute to take part in the oil and wax association activities and to show at their gallery in Cerrillos, New Mexico. The grandeur and happenings in New Mexico has made for, "A Painting Day".

The Land of the Clouds - Ruth Andre

The Quest, my Quest is to continue to grow as an artists as I stretch my wings and try new things with the paint. I have been wanting to paint a larger palette knife painting so today I went at it. The canvas is only 14x14 inches square but compared to a small 6x6 inch square canvas it took a lot more energy and I might add,  a lot more paint. This is the beginning of what I hope is a series of sky paintings. We shall see how things proceed? Taking on the challenge, made for, "A Painting Day".

Nutmeg

Santa Fe, New Mexico is one of my favorite destinations to visit.  The endless array of galleries, restaurants  plus it is a shopper's paradise in the Southwest.  I was there for a gallery show and it was the last day so was out visiting the Railroad District.  As I was walking through a small mall area I spotted a spunky Terrier waiting for treats from his owner.  I had to stop and introduce myself to the owner and asked to pet this charming dog.  I was immediately introduced to Nutmeg and he won my heart with his charming ways.   A few weeks later I received two CD's with non stop photos of Nutmeg along with a request for a painting.  This was a fun painting and I enjoyed the loose brushwork and even painting her wild red collar.  Shopping in Santa Fe made for, "A Painting Day".
