The creek is a bed of sand and rocks with grasses and ferns growing in its sandy bed. This is the season the creek is hidden away underground. I am looking forward to the first fall rains and the creek's renewal. It has been, "A Painting Day".

The Rancheria Creek is still with pools of water surrounded by rocks and grasses. The wildlife in the area still find their way to the creek at dusk and through the night for the grass and a much needed drink of water. It is very hot and the wild grasses on the hills have dried. Summer is a time of transition.

The Challenge 100 Series of paintings continues to be a wonderful time for me to be painting in the studio. It is my time to reflect and paint. It has been, "A Painting Day".

This is a second look at the creek as the water flow starts to slow on its journey through the valley. More rocks can now be seen and small bushes have come out of hiding. It is a time of transition and there is a sadness that another season has passed by. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Challenge Painting Ten

Our creek, the Rancheria Creek, that flows through the valley is seasonal. The creek flows through June and then it is still and finally is swallowed by the blanket of sand. As I walked along the bridge across the creek I could still see a trickle of water flowing through the moss covered rocks and grasses but it had slowed and sounded sleepy. The painting today is my interruption of the quiet creek. It was,

The ranch creek is quietly traveling through its bed of sand and pillowy rocks. I think of the creek as a living being that moves through the cycles of life. It is quiet and then rages and then begins to fade and finally is swallowed by the highway of sand that it travels. May the rains come once again and give the creek new life. The Ranchera Creek, here in the valley, has been the subject for many of my paintings over the years. After the last few days of rain the creek has finally started flowing after months of being dry. The drought here in California has already started taking a toll on the wildlife and natural grasses. We are promised another storm this coming week and hopefully it will help us get through the seasons without too much damage. Thinking how important the creek is to the wildlife and the valley lands has made for,

My son is visiting and we walked to the creek and then beyond to see the green mountain pastures behind our property. It was midday and the sun was set straight overhead as we watched the creek water slowly move through the valley. It was lovely to walk and talk and enjoy the beauty of the valley. Moonlight Reflections - Ruth Andre

Water has become my obsession of late. As I walk down to the creek, or ride into town with my husband, my eyes are fascinated with the rushing waters as we pass. The road to our property is quite narrow with cliffs going straight down to the water's edge. The cliffs can be dark at dusk with just a clint of light hitting the water making for a spectacular view. My daily vista has made for,

Swamped - Ruth Andre

I walked to the creek that runs through our property and just stood by the shore to watch the water rush by. There is always a limb that gets swamped on higher ground or caught in a grouping of boulders and the creek coaxes it free. The rushing water mesmerizes me as it appears to be the same but of course it is constantly different. It has been cold, beautiful and "A Painting Day".

Creekside - Ruth Andre

The painting above is rather narrow and long and to see it larger just click on the painting image. Fall weather is making for cold mornings and nights here in the valley. Rain showers are sure to follow and with the rain the creek that passes through our property will fill with fast moving water taking with it what ever may have rested quietly all summer. Looking down at the creek from the water's edge is a delight to the senses. The river speaks as it careens and swirls down the creek bed. The colors are also luminous and can take you in. Thinking of the changing season has made for, "A Painting Day".
