The painting is the lone survivor of a group of four. I tape off sections of paper and when I took off the wonderful artist tape the paper tore and made a lovely mess. So, "Cloud Shadow" reins as queen for the day. Take care and enjoy! It has been, "A Painting Day".

Star Bright - Ruth Andre

Totem - "Star Bright"
1.25"x12" Oil-Wax on Paper
Painting Matted and Framed 5"x16"
by Ruth Andre

I don't know about you but shopping for the holidays takes planning and a lot of hunting and evaluating to find the perfect surprise for those special people on the Gift List. I usually shop all year long because I am not good working my way through the holiday crowds and feeling the pressure to buy just so there is a present ready for giving. Today's painting is giving me a little festive push to gather some holiday spirit. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Sojourn II - Ruth Andre

"Sojourn II"
12"x12" Oil-Wax on Paper
by Ruth Andre

The Sojourn series has begun and continues with, "Sojourn II". The painting from yesterday's post and this one today are a little different in style. It is a new direction and one I have decided to explore. The paint is layered and scrapped to reveal layers below. Maybe this is a  letting go of sorts so the paints  can go their own way. It has been, "A Painting Day".

The Moon Over the Water - Ruth Andre

"Moon Over the Water"
4.5"x4.5" Oil-Wax on Paper

This painting brings memories of summer nights, a full moon, and seeing the creek water rustling over the rocky creek bed. I may have needed to paint with cool colors on this very hot day hoping for a respite from the heat. Stay cool. It has been, "A Painting Day".

Secret Promise - Summer Sale - Ruth Andre

"Secret Promise"
4"x4" Hand Painted Papers, Linen Thread, Copper Bead on Panel
by Ruth Andre
Summer Sale - SOLD

Today is the beginning of a long Labor Day Holiday. I hope everyone will have a fun and a safe time to  enjoy. I rarely leave the ranch and plan to enjoy the week-end just being at  home. Walking the old road to the creek and watching the wildlife that travels through our small ranch gives me a lot of joy. I talk about the quiet because it is truly very restful here. I have been put on 'Rest" therapy but walking is still something I can do. I did get myself in somewhat of a mess the other day. I went  out to check on my old mare who was down and needed a dose or pain medication. I bent down, forgetting that is a NO-NO and went head over heels and landing on all fours. I hurried away as fast I could thinking the mare might flail her legs and hit me. When My husband found me he was none to happy and gave me a well deserved lecture. Then I thought about the whole mess and started laughing. I was down, the horse was down and neither one of us could get up. I know dark humor sometimes has its place. I had to have help getting up and that made me more than unhappy. Shoot, how did this all happen?  I am healing but my bones have their problems and I need to be careful and mind what I do. If any of you following my blog have osteoporosis I would love to hear what you are doing to make yourself better. I have read and read about medications and therapies and have almost decided nothing works. Any advice would be more than appreciated. By the way Old Mystery took her time but she also got up and started pawing the ground to let us all know she was unhappy and wanted her breakfast of grain and hay. Mystery may just be a little spoiled but at 31 she deserves all the love she can get. Take care.

Brush & Dust

"Brush & Dust"
6"x6" Oil & Mixed Media on Panel
by Ruth Andre

Living on a dirt road has its drawbacks. I love being somewhat isolated from the outside world but the dirt road is the one thing I would like to change. There is dust and with the days warming up the ground is dry and the dust has already started to fly. So with today's painting I am working on making dust my friend. Wishing for a super summer and many, "A Painting Day".

Botanica-Study - Ruth Andre

"Botanica"
7"x5" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre

As the creek waters move through the valley the spring fauna reaches out making shadows on the water as it passes. The palette is changing from bright and deep greens to rusts and pinks and greyed golds. I love the changing seasons and seeing the continual ebb and flow of nature. It has been,

Progress In the Making - Ruth Andre

My studio is coming together. I know it seems like it has been a big project for such a small space but there has been a lot of cleaning, moving and storing things along with a few buying trips. Decisions needed to be made. Feeling the air around me and being able to walk rather than slide from one spot to another will be such a gift. The peg board is up and the flooring has been changed and it is comfy and slightly padded to make for a more comfortable day in the studio.

Today's painting photo shows "Agua Azul". A friend asked for ideas to display a small painting so I sent her this  display vignette showing a painting on a small easel. I do hope to have,
"A Painting Day" very soon.
