The Wall - Ruth Andre

"The Wall"
2.25"x4" Acrylic - Oil on Handmade Japanese Paper
Matted and Framed 10"x10"
by Ruth Andre
$150.00

I love words and what they mean. When I titled this painting, "The Wall" I thought it was funny since the painting is quite small. How could a small wall be a threat or a deterrent and then I thought of emotional walls that we carry with us each and every day. My son and I were talking and he said he had forgiven everyone in his life and he felt free in a new way. He said we should all forgive and let the old walls crumble away. Letting go of barriers would allow new things to come into my life. The process sounds easy almost like jumping into a cold lake. There is a real yes and no that goes on and I am wondering why. Am I comfortable with the old, the unhappy parts of my life? Let me know your thoughts. I am most interested in your experiences with your own wall.

Traverse - Ruth Andre

"Traverse"
10"x10"x1.5" Oil-Wax on Panel
by Ruth Andre

What happened to quiet summer days? It seems this summer has been busy from the get-go. The vacation trip to the North-West and then painting for The Art Spirit Gallery, art classes and family visits have made this summer extra special. I love the positive verve and the spirited days bringing more to life's experience. A friend once told me, you never want the game to end. It might mean extra innings but the game must go on to keep us satisfied. I chose the title, "Traverse" for this painting thinking the painting shows movement. It also shows there is usually more than one way to get from one point to another and you might need to take side paths to get to the final destination. Going back and forth eases the way for progress. It may seem slow at times but progress is being made.

"Pink Cloud Reflections" - Ruth Andre

I had wanted to paint something light and almost whimsical for Valentine's Day so here it is, just a day late. As I look out to the east coming in at the end of the day, the sky is sometimes the most beautiful pink. It is a cotton candy ceiling overhead. The light is quiet and warm. Thinking of love has made for,

Cave Dwelling - Ruth Andre

"Cave Dwelling"
6x6 inches, oil-wax on canvas
by Ruth Andre

Today's painting is a study for a larger painting. I doubt the larger work will look anything like this one but I wanted to feel my way around depicting a cliff dwelling wall in the abstract form. There was no templet to follow, just memories of the southwestern cliffs and the dwellings seemingly cut into the mountain side. Do you hear the beat of the drums as I study for, "A Painting Day".
