There are times when we just have to be patient and hope for the best. It is what I call being on "Pins and Needles". I am wishing for the best and planning for the worst. I read a long time ago that when things seem to be falling apart they are actually falling together. Those words have carried me through some rough times. I remind myself change is inevitable.

Spring is moving past us at a break neck speed with temperatures in the 90's. We were so lucky to have an unexpected storm bringing one more drink of water to the almost dried grasses. We also have two beautiful calves in the far pasture. A neighbor brought them by to graze for a month or so. I love seeing these beautiful heifers enjoying themselves as they wander through the high grass. I hope your spring has been especially nice with the promised cycle of new found life.

This has been another busy week. The days are flying by. I just want to sit out on the back porch and enjoy the view. I did get to the studio yesterday and it felt so good to try a new painting approach. I started by using a graphite pencil and then filling in with large color acrylic shapes. The veiling of white oil and wax was the final layer. I like the contrast of the pale white and strong color shapes.

WHODUNNIT - Ruth Andre

WHODUNNIT - 2018

This painting, "Jackson Pass" will be shipped out next week to a wonderful showing called, WHODUNNIT. Each year the ART ASSOCIATION OF JACKSON puts on a wonderful fund raising show called, WHODUNNIT. Each artist submits a piece of art and only signs the back of the piece so it is anonymously shown. The WHODUNNIT show is quite popular and I wold imagine it is also a lot of fun for patrons viewing the many entries of art to purchase and take home. The art association facility is a beautiful and welcoming facility with many teaching programs.

Since I am still convalescing from my holiday FALL I have set up a work station on the dining table. I have made a mess of things but the lighting is wonderful and I can stir the soup on the stove or throw in a wash between adding layers of paint. I kind of like my new space.

Sometimes an artist needs to go off the reservation and just have a day to try a new technique or a new idea. The studio is a laboratory of sorts and when the door closes it is time for experimenting. The Paper Plate series was started a few years ago and while looking through the studio archives I found the long lost paintings and thought I would share them with you. The painting, "Cake Plate", is matted and framed. I love the whimsy and playfulness of this sweet plate. Send me a set for Christmas-please!

What happened to quiet summer days? It seems this summer has been busy from the get-go. The vacation trip to the North-West and then painting for The Art Spirit Gallery, art classes and family visits have made this summer extra special. I love the positive verve and the spirited days bringing more to life's experience. A friend once told me, you never want the game to end. It might mean extra innings but the game must go on to keep us satisfied. I chose the title, "Traverse" for this painting thinking the painting shows movement. It also shows there is usually more than one way to get from one point to another and you might need to take side paths to get to the final destination. Going back and forth eases the way for progress. It may seem slow at times but progress is being made.

I live outside a Gold Rush town called Sutter Creek. The valley was the home for many miners mining for gold. The remnants of the old gold mines still exist as you pass through the country side. In the past Gold was the heart of the valley and then I believe it went back to rivers and creeks that criss cross valley and mountain towns. I like to think the Rancehria Creek that passes through our small ranch is now the heart of my valley. I am a collector of rocks. The rocks don't have to be especially beautiful to catch my eye. Sometimes it is not the color of the rocks but the shapes that I find as I walk with the horses in the pasture. I always need a pocket to tuck away a small treasure. The heart rock in this painting is one found underfoot while brushing the horses. I hope you

Challenge Painting Thirty-Nine

During spring and summer the wildflowers appear in the valley. They are heirlooms from the past. The California Poppies arrive in the spring and cover the mountain sides and then a tiny white flower follows and then all seems to go dormant except for a few solitary flowers that usually only last a few days. When driving out of the valley I have seen small lilies and tiny sunflowers and then a few flowers with names unknown to me make a showing. The flowers are truly a welcome site among the dried grass. If you follow my blog you have noticed the landscape and abstract painting posts. One may not seem to go with the other but they both feed my soul. I love the plein air painting for so many reasons. I am outside and I am surrounded by nature's beauty. The color in the natural landscape is there to see without filters and a joy to paint. The abstract paintings are a big part of me. I love graphic shapes and intense strong colors. I love to paint from my own personal reference. There is nothing in front of me, no guidelines, just pure design and color to put down as I wish. I am open to see more than the templet that maybe in front of me. Painting abstracts lets me be free to make my own way with the paint. Cream is such a lovely word. I mean there is the tasty cream in coffee and the cream of the crop so today I say Make MIne With Cream so all will be right with the world. It has been,
