Malibu Blue - Moses Botkin Challenge - Ruth Andre

Each month one artist from the Moses Botkin Challenge chooses a subject for the group to paint.  This month the Challenge was "Blue".  Just BLUE and we could paint what ever struck our fancy.  I chose a gorgeous view of the ocean along the Malibu coastline.  Visiting Malibu reawakens my love of the sea.  I doubt one could tire of its beauty.  Looking out to sea made for, "A Painting Day".

Take a look at the other "Blue" Challenge paintings listed below.  I am sure you will find them delightful.  I love them all!

Morning Watch & Moses Botkin Challenge

The Moses Botkin Challenge caught each of the 6 members wishing for more time to complete our paintings.  We all seem to be busy!  There are a lot of shows going and work being painted and shipped.  I too have my share of busy work that goes along with painting.  Have I said enough to give me a good excuse for not finishing my Challenge painting?  The image above is the beginning of my painting.  The rest is still to come so this is indeed a Work-In-Progress painting.  The Challenged title is "Wisdom" and I chose the hawk to symbolize the Innate Wisdom of Animals.  I do look forward to finishing this piece and once it is completed I will post another photo.  Thinking about wisdom has made for, "A Painting Day".  The Challenge group paintings are shown below.

Just Working & Moses Botkin Challenge for August

The August Moses Botkin Challenge was a true Challenge for me this month.  We were asked to paint something inside or outside of our car.  I do have a car but my true affection goes to our work horse F250 Diesel Ford Truck.  This baby has gotten my husband and me to and from our home in Missouri to California several times.  It has also pulled heavy horses, hay and equipment.  Before owning a diesel truck we had an almost very bad situation pulling a horse trailer with two very heavy horses.  We had just picked up our two mares from a wonderful horse farm, Valley Springs Foxtrotters , in Black, MO and were headed home and started up a steep grade and about 3/4 of the way up the hill the truck started to sputter and complain about the load.  At one point we thought we would be headed back down the mountain backwards and who knows at what speed?  It was a scary situation and right then and there we decided we had to have more pulling power and a diesel truck.  We did make it  home okay that day but adventures like that one I did not want to do again.  So this little Ford is a working girl and we love her.  Thinking about our Missouri adventure made for "A Painting Day".  Scroll down and take a look at the other artist entries for August Challenge.

Just Thinking About You & Moses Botkin Challenge

This month Diana Moses Botkin of the Moses Botkin Challenge Group chose for each artist in the challenge to paint a human eye or eyes.  I must say there are some very nice paintings in this challenge.  There are paintings that go way beyond the singular eye and they are so lovely.  As you know I have been away from the studio and it is so good to be back painting.  My painting, "Just Thinking of You",  is a study for a larger work if I ever get the courage to tackle the human form in the future.  The Challenge made for "A Painting Day".

"Spring" & Moses Botkin Challenge

Each month the Moses Botkin Challenge group picks a subject or a technique for the group to paint.  This month Robin Cheers chose the Challenge.  She asked each artist to make a painting using only 15 brushstrokes.  I have to say I dragged my feet on this challenge but once I got started, what fun I had.  The little landscape above is very close to 15 strokes and I learned it is hard to count and paint at the same time.  I used a palette knife since it seemed to be what was needed to get the paint to go where I wanted it to go.  The paint was moving fast and made for, "A Painting Day".  The other paintings for the Moses Botkin Challenge are shown below.  Enjoy!

Megan Noir & Moses Botkin Challenge

This is my third Challenge month with the Moses Botkin Challenge group.  It was also my turn to choose the March Challenge.  This may sound funny but I had never painted an image using a black background so I decided to Challenge myself by asking the group to paint an image on a black background and making it a must do for a new painting.  I chose to paint a little filly, Megan, that lives down the road.  Megan is older now and has been trained to ride and her owner says she is the best little mare.  So with true joy I painted Megan making for, "A Painting Day".

The Challenge member's paintings are below so please enjoy the show.

Converse Reds & Moses Botkin February Challenge

Hope you are having a wonderful Valentine's Day with the special ones in your life.  I am sending a Valentine painting with a bit of "Red" for the day and it is also time to post the Moses Botkin Challenge paintings.  The Challenge for February was chosen by Diana Moses Botkin.  We were supposed to paint a pair of Converse Shoes.  Diana says she has fond memories of these rather fun canvas high tops.  The Challenge paintings from the other five artists are shown below. To tell you the truth this is a subject I never thought I would be painting and it made for a fun challenge.  It definitely made for, "A Painting Day".
