Going Down Post Road - Ruth Andre

"Going Down Post Road"
6"x6" Oil & Mixed Media on Panel
by Ruth Andre

The back roads in Sutter Creek are still fenced with old handmade wooden posts. The old posts are a reminder of how things were done in the past when the settlers used what nature provided. The wood for these posts have a timeless patina that blends with the yellow grasses in summer. It has been,

Brush & Dust

"Brush & Dust"
6"x6" Oil & Mixed Media on Panel
by Ruth Andre

Living on a dirt road has its drawbacks. I love being somewhat isolated from the outside world but the dirt road is the one thing I would like to change. There is dust and with the days warming up the ground is dry and the dust has already started to fly. So with today's painting I am working on making dust my friend. Wishing for a super summer and many, "A Painting Day".

Botanica-Study - Ruth Andre

"Botanica"
7"x5" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre

As the creek waters move through the valley the spring fauna reaches out making shadows on the water as it passes. The palette is changing from bright and deep greens to rusts and pinks and greyed golds. I love the changing seasons and seeing the continual ebb and flow of nature. It has been,

by Ruth Andre

The painting, "Spring Grasses", is the essence of the landscape that surrounds my home and studio. I really like this painting. It is calm with soothing colors and textures that seem to fill the air with gentleness. Spring has brought with it, "A Painting Day".

Dry Creek-Study - Ruth Andre

"Dry Creek-Study"
6"x6" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre

This painting is a prelude to our creek in summer. The creek is slowly flowing through the valley but the water will soon pool and then disappear into the sands of the creek bed. The lush greens of spring will fade to the subtle colors of sand and rock. The colors are quiet and restful and have made for,

Bits of Gold - Ruth Andre

"Bits of Gold"
6"x6" oil & mixed media on archival canvas panel
by Ruth Andre

I have been invited to show my work at the local Sutter Creek Art Council in June. The council wants to exhibit my animal portraits and landscapes. I need to get painting some new work and headed off to the studio with good intentions to start painting a sorrel colt. Then I got side tracked and painted another little abstract with bits of gold peaking through the layered paint. Sometimes it is difficult to get the mind in motion at the task at hand. The show will be fun and the first local show I have done. It will be good to meet up with good friends and meet new people in the community of Sutter Creek. I hope you enjoy this blog, "A Painting Day" as much as I enjoy sharing it with you.

Racing for Gold I - Ruth Andre

"Racing for Gold"
6"x8" oil & mixed media on canvas panel
by Ruth Andre

When you live in the Gold Rush country in Northern California the remnants of the past are in view daily . Old gold mines still stand and panhandlers settle in at the creek banks as they pan for gold. The Gold Rush changed the west and maybe the world as people came from many countries with the wish to find gold. Thinking about the Sutter Street gold strike has made for, "A Painting Day".
