A Painting Day - A Grey Night - Ruth Andre

"A Grey Night"
6"x8" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre

I have been painting for the coming shows and the painting today seemed appropriate to post. I have hurt my right hand, my painting hand so things seem little grey today. I am sure the hand needs to rest but if by Monday it is still in pain a doctor's visit will be made. I have a few deadlines looming so I need to be all good and ready to go soon. I am not really complaining, just letting you all know what is going on here in the little valley studio. It was, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - How Now - Ruth Andre

"How Now"
8"x10" Oil on Canvas Panel
by Ruth Andre

I have two shows coming up that need traditional paintings. I am doing my best to stay traditional but the wild strokes of the brush are making their way to the canvas. I have decided to let the work find its way. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Summer Day - Ruth Andre

"Summer Day"
6"x6" oil on canvas panel
by Ruth Andre

The new year is here and new goals are in the works as well as quiet chatter as to what to do. What do I leave behind and where will I settle in to make my time as an artist count? It is exciting to see new possibilities. Sometimes I feel making changes with my art is like moving from one house to the next. What needs to be taken and what needs to be left behind? Why is is so hard to pick up and go? I do know I have to have my own convictions and belief in myself. So many people are complacent wanting the artist to stay put and not change and even at times wanting them to go back to what was comfortable for them. They do not seem to understand that making art is not just making art. There is growth for the artist that must be tended. There is no standing still when making more is your goal.

Small Works are popular around the holidays and I have already entered two shows featuring small works this year. I am always amazed how paintings change once framed. The three painting above are all triptychs and I chose to frame each of the three individual works in one frame. I hope you enjoy seeing the transformation. The New Year is just days away and my resolution list is growing. The creative spirit is alive in all that we do and surrounds us daily. A Painting Day - Where's Momma

"Where's Momma"
4"x4"x.75 Oil on Cradled Panel
by Ruth Andre
$95.00

Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays!
I want to wish you
all the best
for the holidays and a New Year filled with great joy.
I have enjoyed posting here on ,"A Painting Day" writing about what
goes on here in the valley as I post my paintings. Right now we have
a great deal of cuteness going on since the late calves that were born just a month
ago are getting up in size. The momma cows group them together in what I call a
nursery with one cow left to babysit while the other cows go out to graze. They
have a good system keeping the babies protected and the mommas fed. The painting today
is of a small heifer calf with a sweet look in her eye. I do love these little ones. Yesterday,
was, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Passages - Ruth Andre

"Passages"
4"x18" oil & mixed media on Arches paper
by Ruth Andre

"Passages"
Original Oil on Paper by Ruth Andre
Giclee prints will be available in 2015

Today was a day to stop and enjoy a few moments tucked away in my studio. I, like everyone else I know have been making lists and shopping to get ready for the holidays. As the year comes to an end it is a time to give and to reflect and to set goals for the coming year. My thoughts turned to the passing of time and the passages of our life. Today's painting is called, "Passages" and it is painted on  Arches paper. I felt that this work on paper was successful and that led me to think about making multiple prints of the image. My mind is buzzing with ideas and it is exciting. I truly hope your holiday is filled with joy and love and may the New Year be filled with great happiness.
It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Hillside Reflections - Ruth Andre

"Hillside Reflections"
10"x10"x1.5" Oil & Mixed Media on Cradled Panel
by Ruth Andre
$550.00

I was out today and the roads were very busy which is unusual for our little town of Sutter Creek. Then I remembered we have a storm coming and most people were out stocking up in case they cannot get out for a few days. The painting above is one I posted sometime back but when I saw it today it seemed to be alive with the same energy of the season and the coming storm. I will keep you posted!

A Painting Day - Rushing Creek - Ruth Andre

"Rushing Creek"
Three Panels Each 6"x6"x1.5" - 6"x18"x1.5" - Triptych
By Ruth Andre
$650/Sold

California has been in drought for the past year. We need rain and it looks like the next storm will bring maybe more than we want all in one dose. We are supposed to receive several inches of rain in a two day period. With the last storm the ground took a deep drink. With the coming storm the creek will fill closing the road out of the valley. We have extra provisions set aside knowing the power will most likely go out after just a few hours of heavy rain. As the weather changes it is exciting and a pain the the behind all in one. It has been, "A Painting Day".

A Painting Day - Woodland Reflections - Ruth Andre

"Woodland Reflections"
Three Panels Each 6"x6"x1.5" - Triptych
by Ruth Andre
$650

This is such a busy time of year and we are all sailing around with much to do. I am enjoying the holiday season and am trying to do just what I want to do. Thanksgiving was a special time with my family gathering together at a family camp in the Sequoias in California. We went to see the giant Redwoods, General Sherman and General Grant. The whole forest was so beautiful but these old trees named after our famous forefathers were amazing to see. The camp was full of kids, parents and grandparents all celebrating their time together. May your holidays be filled with
Good Cheer and much Happiness!
